KLOTZ fiber optic
single-mode fibers (SM)
Single-mode fibers have an extremely small core diameter (9 μm), which only permits one single mode with the precisely correct entry angle. Attenuation is therefore far lower and broad bandwidths are possible over long distances. However, a costly, strongly focused laser is necessary as a light source.
